Waterville Links Bulletin
Hello Members and Friends of Waterville Links,
The 2016 golf season has begun with the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando, and it never ceases to amaze me with its diversity of products and services on display. This year’s theme was the upcoming Centennial Celebration of the PGA of America on April 10. Their 28,000 members make it the largest sport organization in the world, and they join other international PGA associations to enhance the business of golf, and most importantly, the growth of the game.
The Waterville Team accompanied by Jeff Babineau, Editor, Golf Weekly and Maura Nolan, President Irish Links.
Two of the shows loyal exhibitors, Ireland and the British Isles, promote golf tourism and their internationally acclaimed Links facilities . Less than 1% of the worlds golf courses are “True Links”, and we’re blessed that Waterville is among the best of these. All of you have enjoyed it’s unique golf experience, including Clubhouse pints with the thirsty locals.
With that in mind, Ireland 2016 will be like none other “wait for it” as the Centennial Anniversary for the Easter Uprising, April 24, 1916 is celebrated throughout the year. The ballad of James Connolly (Wolftones 1968) will play in local pubs and pints lifted all over the country to toast “The Republic”. Our little village of Waterville will warm up this year of celebration with their St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Most of the residents march including visitors from neighboring towns and the ‘walking wounded’ of the previous evening.
I am thinking about a Uprising Celebration in Waterville to coincide with the June Member Guest. Mass at the 12th Hole was our first linkage with Irish history, maybe the Uprising could be next?
Stay Tuned!
Best Regards,
Jay Connolly
